If you’re anything like me, you might find it hard to resist the allure of an action-packed holiday over lounging lazily on a beach. Don’t get me wrong, I love the sun and sea as much as the next person, but there’s something about getting active and trying out new activities that just excites me more. For me, you can’t beat the thrill of trying new activities on holiday. Snorkeling in crystal-clear Indonesian waters, hiking up an active volcano to watch sunrise and even paddle boarding on the Mediterranean Sea- the possibilities are endless!
We have just come back from Majorca and really go into playing Padel. Now, I’m absolutely rubbish at it, but who cares?! As long as we are having fun trying, right? These adventures and activities are a much needed escape from the every day routine. They keep me feeling active and motivated to move on my holidays.
Guilt free fun
Besides the fun and entertainment factor, being active on vacation keeps my body and mind in check. There’s no guilt-inducing feeling of overindulgence when you’ve spent the day kayaking or biking the coastal road in 38 degree heat (don’t recommend doing this again )
I’m not saying you should feel guilty for overindulging or doing no physical activity. Each to their own. I’m just saying for me, I like the balance – and I can’t sit still long enough to do nothing. Staying active on holiday not only helps me stay fit but also clears my mind, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the moment and let go of any worries back home. If I’m laid by the sea, there’s a good chance I’m thinking about work and what is piling up for me when I get back. When I’m at match point in a game of Padel, there is absolutely no way work is on my mind.
Sense of accomplishment
Trying out new activities or completing a challenge gives me a sense of accomplishment. It’s an empowering feeling to know that I pushed my limits and completed something physically demanding. This sense of achievement fuels my confidence and motivates me to continue seeking new adventures in life.
Moreover, being active on holiday means I get to experience the culture and environment on a deeper level. While sunbathing on the beach can be relaxing, I find that getting out there and mingling with the locals or exploring lesser-known spots gives me a richer understanding of the destination. It’s like uncovering hidden gems that most tourists miss out on.
Positive Energy Boost
On top of all these benefits, staying active during my holidays fills me with an incredible amount of positive energy. There is no better feeling for me than going to bed physically tired from exercise. I spend way to much time back home mentally tired from work that I love this switch when I’m being more physically active.
I return home feeling rejuvenated, both physically and mentally. It’s like a battery recharge and I find myself more eager to take on new challenges and projects once I’m back in the daily grind. So, there you have it! That’s why I’d choose adventure and activity over lounging on a beach any day. Don’t get me wrong; there’s nothing wrong with lazy days on the beach, but for me, embracing the thrill of the unknown is what truly sets my soul on fire during a holiday!
